Grid Beam at the 2013 Kinetic Carnival

Grid Beam at the 2013 Kinetic Carnival

In 2013, something magical rolled down the rails in Willits, California: a fire-breathing dragon train, built with aluminum Grid Beam, puffing its way through the Kinetic Carnival. With a dazzling hand-crafted dragon body and a modular aluminum frame underneath, this creature was both art and engineering—a true kinetic sculpture powered by people and possibility.

The dragon's skeleton was made entirely from Grid Beam’s aluminum components, allowing us to design a strong, lightweight frame that could handle curves, crowds, and creativity. No welding. No custom fabrication. Just bolts, beams, and brainpower.

But the best part? After the carnival wrapped up, we didn’t toss a single piece of it. Every part of that aluminum frame was taken apart and reused in other projects—workstations, carts, even structural prototypes. That’s the power of Grid Beam: it’s not just for one idea. It’s for every idea that comes after.

Modular, sustainable, and endlessly rebuildable—Grid Beam keeps the creativity going long after the confetti clears.
